Short and Sweet !

Hi again! This week was SUPER long for some reason, probably cause not much happened. It was good though.

Tuesday we had our first district meeting! One of the Elders from my Cleveland Zone is in my district here, which is awesome! The rest of them I've never met/heard of, so it's fun to get to know them all better. Haha one of the Elders ordered pizza to deliver at the church (cause we all ate lunch together after.) Silly Elders...

We really do a LOT a LOT of member work here, which is awesome! Wednesday, we helped an older lady cut out some patterns for a dress she wants to sew. Saturday we talked to a young women that's preparing to serve a mission, just talked to her about mission life and preparing and such. We also helped some members clean out their basement, vacuumed all the spider webs from the ceiling (it's like a cellar not really a basement.) They are a super cute younger couple with a 3 year old daughter named Audrey. It was actually really fun!

And really that's about it. Met some more members. Had some good studies. :) My favorite talk of the week is from General Conference by Elder Hales called "The Holy Ghost." So good! Definitely helped me realize I should NEVER take the gift of the Holy Ghost for granted, because it's truly how Heavenly Father accomplishes so much! That gift, and the gift of His Son Jesus Christ are the greatest gifts we have!

Basically, I'm just learning to "Keep Moving Forward" no matter what happens!

Week 1 (well almost a full week) in Perrysburg :)

Hello!

Oh goodness a lot happened this week, and basically not much did either! We'll start with transfer day though :)

the church that she grew to love while serving in Strongsville.

Abby with the Koennecke's "bears"!!

So Wednesday, we met up at the stake center. Did the normal switching around, meeting new companions and such, then went to Panera with all the sisters for lunch again. After that, Sister Cox and I had to DRIVE to meet our new companions cause apparently Perrysburg is WAY far from Cleveland! Haha it was about a 2 hour drive, we just listened to Mo-Tab and talked. I learned that Ohio is FLAT (Strongsville has a TON of hills, so I never really knew. Sister Cox was like "welcome to the REAL Ohio" haha). My first impression of Perrysburg was that there are lots of billboards here. And a lot of water towers. :)

First look at Perrysburg !

Met Sister Strand at my new apartment, it's in a cute little complex called "Three Meadows"... right after "Trinity Court" haha! Sister Strand is pretty awesome, she's REALLY good at teaching and we get along pretty great! She's from La Grande, Oregon and has been out for 9 months! Her 9 month mark actually happened the day after I got here- and she didn't even realize it until like 9:00 at night. So we didn't celebrate, it was pretty sad.

Also, fun fact about my apartment- IT HAS A KEYBOARD! So I can sort of practice/play the piano. BEST THING EVER! And.. we have our own bathrooms! Cause there used to be 2 sets of sisters in that apartment, but they got moved out a few transfers ago. So that's pretty nice. :)

Overall, I'm still adjusting to the new area. First days of transfers are always a little overwhelming and you feel like everything happens through a bubble. Church yesterday helped me get a good feel for the ward though, and so far the people I've met are pretty awesome! I'm definitely excited to be here and help the work progress in this area. The members here LOVE the missionaries, so we have lots of help!

Once again, the church is true- wherever you go!

Abby wrote this in her e mail to explain this picture !
"Then one day we decided to walk around this park for lunch- there are just
RANDOM work-out equipment things hanging out on the trails.
It's pretty weird. :) I don't think people actually use them..."

Interesting story to explain this picture !
"I HAVE A PARROT (or some kind of bird It's probably not a parrot) ON MY SHOULDER!
Haha there is a less-active member we went to visit that lets her bird just free range in her house. For the first 20 minutes we were there it just hung out by it's cage, then as soon as we started sharing our "spiritual thought" it decided to FLY on my shoulder! And was just there for like 15 minutes. Definitely not something I've experienced before haha! We just kept talking, but it was REALLY hard to focus because it was right next to my ear, and every time I'd say something it would squak- like it was imitating me!"

This is becoming a tradition.

Tell everybody I’m on my way .......TO PERRYSBURG!!!

That's right my friends, Sister Maughan is getting transferred!!!!!

"Hey Mom, there are NO mountains in Ohio!"

I’m headed to Perrysburg South area, it's in the Toledo Stake. Sister Strand is my new companion, I've never met her either, but that will change tomorrow! That's also the same Stake Sister Gibbs is in, so I’ll probably do some exchanges with her which will be fun!

Ahh I'm all over the place on what I think about it- but the gist includes being really really excited, and trying not to cry because I'm going to miss the people of Strongsville SO MUCH I can't even describe it to you! I've learned to love the people here with all my heart, but I know it was time for a change. What's really cool is that Sister Barnes, my MTC companion is replacing me! I know her and Sister Henderson will take good care of this area. Heavenly Father knows these people, and He knows their needs and when they need certain people. I trust Him 100%, so I know everything that happens is truly in His hands.  But holy goodness I'm going to miss the Backer family and Dennis. And Sister Henderson and the ward.

Anyways.... this week was really good :) We were able to set a baptismal date for Tiffany and Lily (Backer mom and daughter) for July 30th! I'm really excited for them. They also came to church this Sunday!

Other exciting thing was we had “Home Days”  (Broadview Height's fair). Our ward did a booth, and we got to walk around and hand out bracelets that said "Choose the Right" on them, and talk to a lot of people! Plus, Brother Tryon bought us a funnel cake that was WAY delicious (I took a picture when we were done with it... ). Haha it was a really good way to get to know the members better (the members ran the booth while we walked around), and a great way to help people hear more about this great gospel!

Ahh, well that's about it honestly, I'm going to try to spend some time replying to individual emails today. I love you all, and know that I am SO grateful for this gospel in my life. In the midst of all this change, I love knowing that God and Jesus Christ are there the entire time. When I was studying this morning, two things stood out to me that really helped comfort me. One was from President Monson's "Choices" talk. He said that "if we choose Christ, we have always made the correct choice." The other was the very much heard scripture of 1 Nephi 3:7. "I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them."

I know that that is true!

Love, Sister Maughan
